Academic Resources

Library of Congress

The Library of Congress is a great resource for open source images, books, and exhibits on both general and specific topics. Access to the library is free and is frequently updated with new content and resources. A very useful tool for both personal and professional research.

JSTOR

Similar to, but different from the Library of Congress website, JSTOR is a repository of scholarly articles, books, images and research that is tailored more towards academia but is free to the public as well. Most people think only college students have access, but in fact, alumni and the general public also can have access. General public access has a capped number of articles per month, and is separate from JPASS which is the subscription based model. You can register for a free personal account if you are not affiliated with a school anymore.

Disability Resources

Disability Resources does exactly what it says on the tin. Broken up into categories such as Transportation, Disability Benefits, and Education, this website compiles free articles and resources pertaining to the broader categories. A good starting place to learn more and find resources about topics that a google search might miss.

Ability Central

Ability Central is a database committed to gathering accessible resources as well as advertising community accessible events both virtual and in person. A great way to find information about devices, and both physical and digital accessibility resources.

Rooted in Rights

A great resource for those who want to be changemakers in the disability community,Rooted in Rights is committed to access, advocacy, and action across issues that affect the disability community including natural disasters, Covid, and group movements like Black Lives Matter.

Legal Resources

ADA

The official website of the Americans with Disabilities Act, this website is a great resource for updates and historical record of all the features and rights granted by the ADA. It also houses past complaints brought to the courts as well as how to file a complaint if your rights are violated.

Disability Help

Disability Help is an important resource to know your rights and obtain legal advice as well help applying for various programs related to disability including workers comp, personal injury and social security benefits.

NACDL

The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers offers trainings, resources and information co-sponsored by the ACLU that pertain to disability. While this website is not exclusively for disability lawyers, the trainings and presentations listed can be valuable for anyone needing legal representation or wanting to understand more about how to be represented in court.

Social Resources

Disability Visability Project

The Disability Visibility Project is helmed by the amazing Alice Wong, a podcast, an archive, and now two books later, this incredible project is a great resource for personal, lived experiences of disability highlighted on a variety of topics. If you need community, ideas, or comfort in dark times, this podcast is for you.

NYFA

The New York Foundation for the Arts provides resources for disabled artists. They reference not only art that already exists, but various foundations/organizations both general and specific category (dance, film, theatre) to help disabled artists who are interested in these fields know where to begin their search to be part of those communities. A great springboard for creativity and starting the path to artistic endeavors.
